Established in 1975, Leco stands out for being one of the oldest and most established players in the car business trade. Leco began as a humble used-car dealer in the early days and transitioned successfully to become one of the biggest parallel importers (PI) of brand new cars in Singapore.
Beginning as a used-car dealer, Leco exported to neighbouring markets like Batam, Malaysia, Brunei, New Zealand and Australia. In 1980s to 1990s, Leco became one of the largest used-car exporter in Singapore. Expanded its export business to reach countries like Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Cyprus.
When the 1997 Asian financial crisis hit, the currencies of the regional countries depreciated significantly. Leco was forced to pull out of these markets and saw the opportunity to switch the business to parallel importing of brand new cars. It wasn’t easy then as the new car business was dominated by authorised distributors and Singapore consumers were sceptical of parallel importers.
After years of hard work, customers have gained confidence in Leco’s parallel imported vehicles. We have promised and delivered thousands of brand new cars. Today, we parallel imports Japanese brands like Toyota and Honda, and continental brands like Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW.
Our founder Mr Ng Hoy Keng’s philosophy: “We compete on our brand, our integrity. A promise to deliver.”
Leco is founded by Mr Ng Hoy Keng. Born in a Punggol kampong, Ng Senior ran a provision shop in the market and as Mr Ng was number six among eight siblings, he did not have to support the family and is thankful to be able to receive a university education at the then Nanyang University.
His interest in cars was sparked in 1970, after a visit to the car expo in Osaka, Japan. He soon joined the former Asia Motor, as a Mazda car salesman. As a hardworking salesman, he was promoted to be a supervisor within 3 months and then assistant manager soon after.
In 1975, Mr Ng decided to strike out with a few friends to start Leco. Beginning as a used-car dealer, Nr Ng then expanded into the export market. During the 1997 Asian Financial crisis Mr Ng pulled out of the export market and successfully transitioned the business to parallel importing of brand new cars.
Besides the car trade, Mr Ng is also the chairman of sports apparel provider Augment International, distributor of the Italian brand Kappa.
Mr Ng believes in giving back to society and is actively involved in public service. As a testament of his public services, he received the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat, PBM) from the President of Singapore in 2006 and Service to Education Award (Xinmin Secondary School) in 2013.
In 1984, Mr Ng joined the 175-year-old Teochew club Chui Huay Lim and has been leading the Teochew business community as President of the club since 2022. He is also an Honorary President of Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan and an appointed member of the Ngee Ann Kongsi.

Just gotten the new Honda Vezel 1.5 last week by Leco. We met up with the Salesperson Chow in late Nov 2023 as we hope to take advantage of the falling COE.
Chow has been very patient to explain market sentiment and also the differences between the Vezel Hybrid and the petrol version. Importantly, he is straight-foward in explaining the company position in bidding for COE. After failing the 1st bidding, we got the car on the second bid.
He is well-versed in the Application process – the old car Trade-In, the Bank Loans, LTA process etc. We got through all that seamlessly. When we got the car, he took the time to explain the many features and functions of the Honda Vezel.
We went through the whole process without any hiccups and surprises – A Happy Journey, and the Honda Vezel is Great !
